I get asked a lot what the benefits of having a second shooter would be & I never really know where to start as there's so many, so this called for a blog! Firstly I must say that I do also get a number of enquiries specifically asking for two photographers, or who straight away choose the collection with two photographers without question & this makes me very happy!
So lets begin by talking about my second shooter. If you have read my About Me page or if you follow me on Facebook you will probably know that it's Rob, my partner. My partner in everything. We are very lucky that we are in the same business & have the same skills as it means we work together a lot, not only is this beneficial to us, I believe it's beneficial to our clients. The fact that we are a couple means we know how to work well with each other, we are a good dynamic to have around & couples seem to like having another couple at their wedding. I trust Rob & know I don't have to worry when I abandon him with the boys in the morning, I know he will shoot what I need & how I like it. It's also great that we are a couple because if I need him to move or get something, I can just say it - without worrying about offending or being polite (haha). This can sometimes be quite comical for the B&G / guests too. There has never been a wedding that Rob has done with me where I didn't get an email afterwards thanking us both for being there.
You will still be wanting to know what a second shooter actually does. As I obviously can't be in two places at once, it's great if you don't want anything missed, for example groom prep. If this is at the same venue I can easily do both, it just means certain moments are missed when I am going to & from. Whereas having a second shooter means everything is being covered at the same time. It also means you get a great deal more of detail shots. I leave Rob to concentrate on this in the morning as the boys usually don't need two hours for photos. They get ready a lot quicker! Again this means I never miss an important moment with the bride. Same again during the couple photos, Rob stays to capture lots of naturals of the guests. I of course do this alone but just not in as much detail as by the time I have done confetti, family formals, table set up & couple photos with no assistance, there isn't much time to get a great number of guest naturals. It also means you get different angles during the ceremony, speeches & first dance. You may not be too fussed about things like this but if you are a photo lover, I really see this as an importance.
I offer a second shooter in my Wedding Collections Two & Three. I don't offer it in Collection One as this package is rather basic & usually people who book this already have made the decision not to have a second shooter. Although I highly recommend it - always, I also like giving my clients options, as it's their day after all!
You may also wonder what happens if you decide to have Rob as your videographer but still want a second shooter - do not fear! This is actually another reason I don't have Rob in all my collections, as he has his own filming business - Fuzfilms. If he isn't already busy filming another wedding or the same one as I am photographing he is ALWAYS my second shooter, which is 90% of the time. However obviously there's occasions when we are filming & photographing together & when this happens my second shooter is my friend & amazing photographer Alishia Love. This is where luck is on my side again as Alishia & I went to school together, so we already have a good working relationship & trust. We are very similar, have the same tastes & numerous things in common so she is a superb second to Rob; your experience & images will be of the same standard.
Now I think it's best to include some second shooter images as you may be pleasantly surprised with how hard they work!! The majority are Rob's but I have captioned which images are Alishia's. Both Rob & Alishia know what I like, & as I do the editing all your images will blend & compliment each other. It isn't like having two different sets of photographs. I also want to note that the majority of images will be from me. More of the images will be mine, as I am who you booked & then a handful of specifics I wanted / naturals of the guests are the second shooters which ultimately give clients the perfect story of their day with no gaps.
This blog would go on forever if I included every wedding & more from each, so I have just pulled out a selection to give you an idea. Hopefully this gives you more of an insight to how a second shooter works & I have made bullet points below for quick fire reasons why its beneficial.
